El torneo en que Francisco Alarcón representó a la Roja de Berizzo

Es uno de los torneos olvidados de la Selección Chilena. Fue en mayo de 2008 en Kuala Lumpur, en tiempos de Marcelo Bielsa a cargo de la Roja. La Anfp de Harold Mayne Nicholls había aceptado dos torneos juveniles para la misma fecha. Uno, el de Esperanzas Toulon, interesaba más que la Copa Intercontinental de Malasia, al que se había sido invitado luego de la deserción de Argentina. Marcelo Bielsa tenía un plan.

El Loco partiría a Francia con los jugadores jóvenes de primera línea, a los que él le había visto más potencial para incrustarse en la Roja adulta. A Kuala Lumpur iría su ayudante Eduardo Toto Berizzo con los jóvenes en la segunda línea en la consideración. La Federación logró parchar con Osvaldo González, Daúd Gazale y Roberto Cereceda, tres a los que Bielsa quería hacer jugar, pero que por edad no entraban en la organización Sub 21 de Toulon, más estricta que la Sub 23 de Kuala Lumpur.

Berizzo se fue a Asia con un plantel corto pensando en jugar el 3-3-1-3 que pedía Bielsa. Ahí, entre los menos conocidos, estaba Francisco Alarcón, espigado volante central de Unión Española sin minutos como profesional aún. Iba a ser el suplente de Felipe Seymour en la zona de contención. El plantel quedó conformado con los arqueros Gregory Saavedra y Richard Leyton. Los zagueros Osvaldo González, Carlos Labrín, Alfonso Parot, Agustín Parra y Lucas Domínguez. Los carrileros Paulo Magalhaes, Pablo González y Roberto Cereceda; los volantes Francisco Alarcón, Felipe Seymour, Jorge Gálvez y Gerardo Cortés, más los delanteros Francisco Pizarro, Daúd Gazale, Leonardo Saavedra y David Llanos.

Algunos cumplieron con creces y estuvieron luego en las clasificatorias. Otros, como Francisco Alarcón, no tuvieron nunca más posibilidades en la Roja. Eso que con Marcelo Bielsa debutaron varios jugadores juveniles en la selección adulta. Matías Celis, Renato González y Carlos Ross son los casos más emblemáticos. Chile en Kuala Lumpur fue tercero al caer con el campeón Nigeria en semifinales por 2-1, gol de David Llanos. En la primera fase goleó 5-1 a Togo, perdió 2-1 con Australia y luego venció a Croacia, con algunos nombres que luego se desparramaron por Europa. Ese gol de la clasificación a semifinales había sido de Osvaldo González.

Lo de Alarcón, hoy en la noticia por sus insultos a Emiliano Astorga, fue su primera incursión mediática. Jugó solo un partido y junto a Jorge Gálvez de la UC y a su compañero Gregory Saavedra de Unión, eran los tres jugadores menos conocidos del plantel. Su carrera profesional comenzaría recién en 2010 en Unión Española, ahora como marcador central. En 2012 pasaría a San Martín de San Juan de Argentina como una promesa del fútbol chileno. Allá sería titular e incluso sonaría para la Roja adulta. Luego deambularía por casi una decena de equipos nacionales, siendo recordados algunos partidos en Palestino donde fue delantero y logró llegar al gol.

Tras campañas regulares, en Wanderers, con 31 años, era el llamado a ser uno de los líderes del plantel 2021. Sus errores fueron extremadamente notorios y la mochila que traía a cuestas creció. Terminó de explotar tras un correcto cambio del DT Astorga, con la intención de dar vuelta un partido y sacando a un jugador que tenía amonestado. “Viejo culiao, cagón de mierda”, le respondió el cuestionado defensa. Intercedió el nuevo presidente Reinaldo Sánchez, quien lo mandó de una patada a Kuala Lumpur, el lugar donde defendió a la Roja de Berizzo en la Era Bielsa.
