Marco Villaseca: La contratación estrella que no se adaptó en un gigante de Moscú

Este 2022 el chileno Víctor Felipe Méndez se convirtió en una de las esperanzas del CSKA Moscú, el poderoso equipo ruso que en los últimos años se había codeado con los grandes de Europa en Champions League y Europa League. Hace 20 años otro equipo de la capital llenaba primeras planas. Era el Spartak Moscú, clasificado a la Champions League 2002-2003 como flamante campeón ruso. Necesitaba un par de refuerzos para competir en la fase de grupos que, tras el sorteo, iban a terminar compartiendo con Valencia, Liverpool y Basilea.

Flojos en la zona media de la cancha, miraron hasta Chile para reforzarse con un volante de contención que diera el equilibrio entre la defensa y el mediocampo. Pese a un 2001 que había derivado con la quiebra de Colo Colo, el año de Marco Villaseca había sido el mejor de su carrera, incluso siendo un jugador muy regular desde su irrupción en Audax Italiano 1995. El 2001 el Flaco lo había comenzado como figura, y goleador, de la selección chilena en la Copa Millenium con Nelson Acosta. Luego, como fijo con Pedro García y Jorge Garcés en Copa América 2001 y Eliminatorias, en una Roja que andaba a los tumbos. Mal año de la selección y Colo Colo, pero gran año de Marco Villaseca.

Tan bueno fue su rendimiento que Juvenal Olmos, DT de Católica, lo puso como prioridad para su proyecto de la UC 2002. Por ese tiempo Juvenal hablaba del biotipo del nuevo jugador chileno, y Villaseca cumplía con ese requisito. La UC puso mucha plata sobre la mesa para que un jugador alto (Villaseca medía 1,86) fuera el émbolo de su equipo. El Flaco estuvo listo en los cruzados, pero la oferta del campeón ruso fue inmejorable. Dejó plantado a Olmos, tomó a su familia y se fue al frío moscovita. El DT cruzado finalmente se quedaría con el gigante Mauricio Segovia para esa posición. También probaría con el refuerzo Carlos Tapia, cambiándolo de posición. En la selección su hombre sería Marcos González, privilegiándolo incluso por sobre Rodrigo Meléndez en más de una oportunidad.

Villaseca se fue con su esposa y sus dos hijos al gigante ruso, en años donde no muchos chilenos estaban en Europa. Iba a ser una de las cartas nacionales en Champions League, subiendo de estatus, pero para mala suerte de él, en año de un Mundial donde Chile no iría, y donde la Roja finalmente jugó solo un partido oficial. Sería ante Turquía, dirigidos por César Vaccia, y poco antes de Corea-Japón 2002.

La estadía de Villaseca en Rusia duraría poco más de una semana. Ni él ni la familia lograron adaptarse al frío de Moscú, ni al de la sociedad rusa. El 13 de marzo del 2002 el Spartak anunciaba la recisión del contrato por tres años del volante chileno de casi 27 años. «Somos gente civilizada y entendemos las preocupaciones de la familia Villaseca. No le vamos a crear un problema”, dijo el entrenador asistente del Spartak, Vyacheslav Grozny. “El internacional chileno, primer jugador de esa nacionalidad que iba a ser fichado por un club de fútbol ruso, alegó como razones del desacuerdo la negativa de su esposa a vivir en Moscú al tener una hija de sólo cinco meses de edad”, decían los medios hace ya más de 20 años. “A los dos días de su llegada a la capital rusa, Villaseca hizo declaraciones contradictorias, en las que por un lado agradeció el buen recibimiento de sus compañeros y por otro se declaró aislado en un ambiente desconocido y sin hablar el idioma”, aseguraban.

Con el tiempo, el propio Marco Villaseca se refería al tema. “No era lo que esperaba. Fui al Spartak de Moscú, uno de los grandes de Rusia, pero duré dos semanas. No me gustó cómo se trabajaba. Estabas encerrado en la base y te ibas los fines de semana a la casa. Tomé la decisión de devolverme porque no era lo que quería ni para mí ni para mi familia”. La decisión Villaseca, ya entrado marzo, fue importante. No solo por decirle que no a un contrato de tres años en el gigante del fútbol ruso, sino que también por quedar sin trabajo cuando los libros de pases ya estaban cerrados. Desde marzo a julio, quien había sido uno de los mejores jugadores chilenos el año anterior, quedó sin jugar. La UC le cerró las puertas y prefirió el retorno de Nelson Parraguez. El quebrado Colo Colo tampoco lo pudo recibir. Fue la Unión Española de Marcelo Vega, José Luis Sierra, José Luis Sánchez, Nelson Tapía y Fernando Vergara la que le abrió las puertas. Fue figura del Clausura 2002, y ya en 2003 pudo volver a un poco más saneado Colo Colo de Iván Zamorano.

La vida da revanchas y justo dos años después de sus negros días en Moscú, otra oferta llegó desde Rusia. Ahora era el Rostov el que iba tras sus pasos. “El 2002 me devolví a Chile, jugué en Unión Española seis meses y luego volví a Colo Colo. El 2004 se presentó la opción de ir de nuevo a Rusia y me fui. Yo tenía la espinita de jugar allá para no lamentarme después de retirado. Estuve un año, jugué harto la primera parte del campeonato, hice hasta goles. Después cambiaron al técnico y se hizo más complejo tema, pero me quedé tranquilo porque fui, jugué y rendí”, comentaba hace poco a AS, aunque sin olvidar que el frío de las relaciones no había cambiado nada. “Son muy fríos, no te atreves a preguntarles nada. Y el idioma ya es difícil. En el día a día hay muchas situaciones raras. Por ejemplo, los almuerzos se hacían a medida que ibas llegando. Llegas, comes y te vas. No había un grupo, no había relación. Tú no podías decir que tenías buena relación con alguien. Esa fue la segunda experiencia, que era un poco más normal que la primera. De todas formas fue una linda época que la vivimos los cuatro en mi familia”.

Así, Marco Villaseca cumplió con su meta de jugar en Europa. Tras él vinieron Mark González, Eduardo Lobos, Nicolás Canales y Gerson Acevedo en el fútbol ruso. Ahora es el turno de Víctor Felipe Méndez, quien lamentablemente no podrá jugar competiciones europeas por los castigos que hay sobre Rusia por si invasión a Ucrania. Por ahora el primer triunfo de Méndez será adaptarse al frío, de Moscú y de los rusos. Marco Villaseca recién lo pudo hacer, a duras penas, en la segunda posibilidad que tuvo en Rusia.
