El Zanahoria Pérez llevaba mucho tiempo perdiendo. Perdió a su padre a los 6 años, y a su madre a los 15. Lo crió la Señora Doris, quien también partió el 2018. “Mi vida es como un reality, todos los años se va alguien”, dijo hace poco en radio ADN. Noviembre para él es un mes especial. Se fue su madre un día 16, pero fue campeón de Copa Chile el 17 de noviembre de 2018 con Palestino y luego el 18 de este año de la Supercopa con la UC. En noviembre también casi pierde el título en su visita al estadio Monumental. Pese a ser figura y a atajarle un penal a Iván Morales, sufrió la derrota en los descuentos. Quedaban a cinco puntos de los albos. Se le iba el torneo. Solo meses atrás había sufrido el descenso con Iquique en el torneo 2020 pese a atajar lo inatajable. No paraba de perder.
En 2010 también había descendido. Lo hizo defendiendo a Everton de Viña del Mar en un duelo ante Universidad Católica que le dio el título a los cruzados. Su actual compañero Felipe Gutiérrez le anotó uno de los tantos que lo mandó a la B. UC y Everton, mismos protagonistas de este pasado fin de semana. Ahora el Zanahoria estaba del otro lado, solo que esta vez su querido Everton no se iba a ir al Ascenso. En Viña del Mar debutó y fue campeón en 2008 como tercer aquero en el equipo de Nelson Acosta, Gustavo Dalsasso y Johnny Herrera. Fue el exmeta azul el que siempre lo promocionó. Por allá por 2011, cuando Pérez jugaba en Puerto Montt, Herrera catalogó a Zanahoria como el arquero del futuro por sobre Toselli, Veloso, Prieto y algunos veinteañeros que tenían titularidad por aquellos años.
Sebastián Pérez, jugando solo una rueda en 2021, se convirtió en el mejor arquero del torneo en todas las encuestas. Si había partido de definición ante Colo Colo, no iba a poder ir a la gira a jugar ante México y Honduras. Su debut tan esperando con la Selección Chilena iba a tener que seguir esperando. El meta de la UC iba a seguir perdiendo.
Pero ahora le tocó ganar. Sin necesidad de partido extra sumó su segundo título con la UC tras la Supercopa con Ñublense. También sumó la nominación definitiva a la Roja junto a Zacarías López y al juvenil albo Eduardo Villanueva. Probablemente sea el número 1, mismo número que le deberían dar en la Precordillera para la temporada 2022. Hay que darle toda la confianza que no tuvo en su totalidad cuando se fue Matías Dituro. Solo la premura de los partidos de Libertadores y Copa Chile, sumado a las cuarentenas que pedía Chile, hicieron que el colorín fuera titular, pese a los contactos con Axel Werner y Alexander Domínguez. Luego se mantuvo por rendimiento y la UC jamás echó mano a ese cupo de extranjero dejado por el arquero que partió al Celta de Vigo.
Pérez ganó partidos por sí solo, tal como lo hacía Dituro. Ahí le sacó ventajas a Brayan Cortés, quien se quedó sin selección, Nicolás Peranic, Zacarías López, entre otros goleros destacados del año. Terminó el año en lo más alto, atajando lo mismo que atajaba en Iquique, pero ahora bailando con la linda. Muy probablemente será el arquero ante México, justo en días que Claudio Bravo y Gabriel Arias están lesionados. El del Betis debería llegar para la fecha doble ante Argentina y Bolivia, pero el de Racing tiene para rato. Ahí debería estar Seba Pérez, siempre listo para rendir. Le ha tocado tantas veces, que una más sería solo parte de su historia de película. Esa que lo tuvo en Segundo División Profesional en canchas con poco pasto, y que ahora lo tienen como campeón, mejor arquero y seleccionado nacional. Simplemente, el año del Zanahoria.
