Así se forjó la “no llegada” de Andy Carroll a Colo Colo

El Zaragoza hoy deambula en la segunda categoría de España. Sin embargo, tiene una historia no tan lejana de éxitos, victorias inolvidables y seleccionados españoles. También de figuras como los hermanos Gabriel y Diego Milito, Gerard Piqué, Luciano Galletti, entre otros. Aún así, con hinchas acostumbrados a competir en la elite, se sorprendieron con el rumor que ponía al delantero inglés Andy Carroll como posible refuerzo antes del cierre del libro de pases de la segunda categoría hispana. ¿Qué se dice? Que un intermediario se contactó con el club maño. Los más afiebrados dicen que ya lo vieron por las calles de Zaragoza.

Andy Carroll tuvo sus minutos de gloria defendiendo al Newcastle, el Liverpool y la selección inglesa, con la que jugó la Euro 2012. Durante algunos mercados de fichajes fue el delantero sensación, pero las lesiones estancaron su carrera. No juega desde la temporada 2019-2020, donde defendió en solo un partido al Newcastle. Ahora, estando toda la 2020-21 afuera, y ya comenzada la 2021-22, su representante tuvo una frenética búsqueda de club, la que incluyó Inglaterra, un club de Irán, y uno de primera y segunda división de Portugal. También miró para Sudamérica. Supo que Colo Colo estuvo en búsqueda de Marcelo Moreno Martins y Facundo Ferreyra, dos delanteros conocidos en Europa, ambos con paso por el Shaktar Donetsk de Ucrania. Carroll y Ferreyra con paso por el Newcastle de Inglaterra. Por ahí estuvo el primer vínculo entre Andy, desesperado buscando club, y Colo Colo, desesperado buscando un nueve.

Un intermediario de Andy Carroll indagó, pero no encontró contacto alguno de la dirigencia de Colo Colo, todo a escasas horas del cierre del libro de pases en Chile. Llegaron al periodista Rodrigo Hernández, director de deportes de Radio ADN de Chile, emisora del grupo Prisa de España, de donde también es el Diario AS. El intermediario se presentó, le dijo que manejaba a Andy Carroll, y le pidió un contacto de la dirigencia de Colo Colo. El periodista especialista en tenis accedió, pero también comenzó a seguir la trama. Le dio al dato a Cristián Ávila Soto, reportero que cubre Colo Colo para ADN, quien no dudó en lanzarlo al aire. Tenía acceso a una de las fuentes directas en la negociación. Pudo ser una bomba, pero para todos se convirtió en bomba de humo.

Tal como todos esos refuerzos que no llegaron, que hoy los enmarcamos como los grandes humos del fútbol chileno, otra vez si había un hilito de donde afirmarse. Como el de Valderrama a Coquimbo, el de Morientes a Unión Española, el de Maradona a Temuco, el de Bebeto y Stoichkov a la UC, el de Giussepe Giannini a Audax, o el de Ronaldo y Edgard Davids a Colo Colo. Otra vez había existido un mínimo acercamiento, un intento, un “no, gracias”, pero la gestión se había hecho.

Y la gestión entre Andy Carroll y Colo Colo efectivamente se hizo. Se enviaron documentos y se habló de dinero. Fue Carlos Cortés, abogado y dirigente albo, el que “llevó” la negociación.  El exseleccionado inglés estaba dispuesto a venir a Chile por 480 mil dólares, y hasta podía bajarse a 350 mil. Una ganga, pero muy caro para un jugador que arrastraba más de 20 lesiones de cuidado desde que debutó en el fútbol en la 2006-2007. Finalmente, apelando que todo estaba muy encima y debían presentarse papeles hasta las 18:00 horas de Chile, se le dijo que no y optaron por el venezolano Christian Santos, con quien iban un poco más avanzados en las negociaciones. Con mucho menos currículum, pero sin lesiones graves. La apuesta era menor, y mucho menos mediática que fracasar con Carroll.

Hoy el inglés sigue buscando club. Su intermediario sigue averiguando contactos en ligas donde no se ha cerrado el libro de pases. Algunos dicen que lo vieron en Zaragoza, otros que ya camina por La Calera, donde se le busca reemplazante a Octavio Rivero. A esta altura el muchacho juega donde le digan. Las redes sociales hacen el resto.
