Joaquín Montecinos, el nuevo Arturo Vidal

Volante de contención o volante mixto. En esas posiciones deslumbraba Joaquín Montecinos en sus inicios a comienzos de la década del 2010. Primero en Unión Temuco, Región donde su padre Cristián brilló en 1993, y luego en La Serena, donde su nombre comenzó a sonar con más regularidad, tanto en el fútbol joven como en el primer equipo granate. “El nuevo Arturo Vidal”, le decían, mientras el King levantaba la Copa América de Chile 2015.

Cuando era volante de quite, era ordenado. Un seis muy posicional que llegó a las selecciones juveniles que jugaría el Mundial Sub 20 de Turquía en 2013. Luego le dieron libertades, ahí en el desorden se acercó al juego de Arturo Vidal. Pisando más el área rival, correteando, llegando al arco contrario. Todo bien hasta que en febrero de 2016 sufrió una lesión que pudo terminar con su carrera. “Se escuchó como si se partiera una tabla en dos”, contaba en las entrevistas posteriores. El diagnóstico fue fractura de tibia y peroné en el mejor momento de su corta carrera. Se sumaba a la grave lesión de Giovanni Campuzano, el lateral izquierdo de La Serena que también despuntaba antes de los 20 años.

La recuperación de Montecinos fue lenta. El nacido en Barranquilla en 1995, cuando su padre jugaba en el Junior, debió recuperarse física y anímicamente.  Su padre, delantero, lo apoyó en todo momento. Uno zurdo, otro derecho, pero con muchas cosas en común en lo fuerte de cabeza. Porque Joaquín desde chico ha estado en la palestra, y año a año ha ido superando etapas. “Cuando chico, estando en la Selección y en La Serena, tuve la posibilidad de jugar en equipos grandes de Chile, pero no se dio y luego me lesioné. Esas cosas te hacen madurar mucho, uno le toma más peso a la profesión, y creo que lo que más quería era pulirme. No me quería ir de la B sin hacerme un nombre”.

Y así empezó de a poco. Volvió a La Serena y seguía siendo una de las grandes promesas del club. Por eso resultó extraño cuando en 2019 partió a San Luis. Parecía que en la Cuarta Región se habían dado por vencido con su gran proyecto. En Quillota rindió y para el 2020 tuvo ofertas de Primera. Ya no era el volante de quite, el nuevo Vidal. Se había convertido en un jugador de toda la cancha, un carrilero por la derecha. Él admitía que admiraba a José Pedro Fuenzalida. Sus mapas de calor eran parecidos, pero el de Montecinos era a mil por hora, como el Motoneta de Barrabases.

Montecinos sintió que aún le faltaba un poco más de recorrido y tomó la opción de no saltar a Primera División. Melipilla iba a ser su casa en el 2020. Sorprendía verlo en los compactos. Era un veloz puntero derecho, muy lejos de aquel volante de quite de la primera mitad de la década anterior. El paso a la Primera División estaba al caer. Fue Audax Italiano quien lo reclutó. Buscaba un delantero veloz y lo encontraron. A los pocos partidos ya sonaba en los tres grandes de la Capital y como opción para algún microciclo de la Roja. Ojo, que aún puede jugar por Colombia.

Pero al polifuncional Montecinos aún le faltaba la última sorpresa. Primero la de decidir seguir en Audax, y segundo la de convertirse en un 9 de área tras la partida de Rodrigo Holgado. El porte lo suple con velocidad y ganas de luchar cada pelota. Le traerán delanteros expertos para el segundo semestre, pero deberán demostrar que son más que él en el área. Lautaro Palacios no lo pudo demostrar, y ahora será el turno de Federico González. Un nueve con poco gol, dicen en Argentina. Joaquín está ahí, disponible. Ya no es el nuevo Vidal, ahora puede ser el nuevo Cristián Montecinos, pero diestro.
