Lo de Messi en Chile fue una locura mediática. Era la segunda vez que el astro argentino pisaría la cancha del Estadio Nacional. La primera había sido en el 1-0 de octubre de 2008 con gol de Orellana. Un centenar de medios, chilenos y argentinos, cubrirían la estadía de dos días del que era en ese entonces el Mejor Jugador del Mundo. El Hotel Monticello lo recibió. Hasta allá llegaron y buses y buses con prensa. El 10 daría una conferencia a su llegada al país. Todos tenían preparada su pregunta al Mejor de Todos.
Instalados en el Hotel, Lugano, Falcao, Ortega y Davids se paseaban por los salones. Había que entrevistarlos, pero con un ojo en la llegada de Lío desde Argentina. Pasaron las horas y los uruguayos, recientes campeones de América, ya eran amigos de la prensa. Eso, hasta que cerca de la medianoche apareció Messi. Se sentó cansado y solo respondió dos preguntas. Una de un medio argentino y otra de un chileno. Los otros 98 medios a remar con lo que había. Iba a ser la única oportunidad de hacerle una pregunta al astro del Barcelona.
Al día siguiente Messi desembarcó en el Nacional. Pintaba para estadio lleno, pero no llegaron ni 15 mil personas. El organizador Marcelo Salas culpaba al frío y a la triste eliminación de Chile en la Copa América. Por su equipo estaban Pablo Contreras, Arturo Vidal y Esteban Paredes, parte de ese desastre ante Venezuela. El estadio se veía vacío. El Matador no ocultaba su decepción por la falta de público. Junto a “M11 Salas Producciones” había hecho su despedida en 2009 a estadio lleno.
Los equipos se llamaron Amigos de Salas y Amigos de Messi. Todos amigos de la zurda. Por el equipo del chileno jugaron Peric; Contreras, Jorge Vargas, Riffo y Papa; Vidal, Gargano, Davids; Ortega; Falcao y Salas. Luego ingresarían Esteban Paredes, Diego Rivarola y Alejandro Marquez y el arquero Juan Martínez, por ese entonces en el Unión Temuco del Matador. Al equipo lo dirigió Eduardo Berizzo.
Por el lado de Messi, con Dunga como entrenador, salieron Abbondanzieri; Cafú, Lucio, Lugano y Milito; Alvaro González, Viáfara; Messi; Lavezzi, Milito y Martínez. Más tarde entrarían Martín Palermo, Wellington Paulista, Emerson, Mauricio Aros y Atrada.
Lo de Cafú, retirado más de un año antes, era una locura. Con 41 años desbordó a Emiliano Papa toda la noche. Lo de Davids también asombraba. Un año después volvería a Chile y “se ofrecería” a jugar por Colo Colo. Ortega y Palermo seguían siendo cracks. Todos actores secundarios de la figura del partido junto a Cafú, obviamente Lionel Messi.
El zurdo argentino hizo dos goles para el 7-2 de sus amigos sobre los de Salas. También convirtieron Diego Milito, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Juan Manuel Martínez, Álvaro González y un autogol de Papa, mientras que Esteban Paredes haría los dos goles para los Amigos de Salas. Habría que ver qué tan amigos eran.
