Charles Aránguiz, dos años más de vida para La Roja

La Generación Dorada, la de los estelares en Brasil 2014 y las Copa América 2015 y 2016, se formó con jugadores que estuvieron en las Sub 20 del 2003, 2005, 2007 y 2009. De esta última, la del Sudamericano de Cochabamba, solo Charles Aránguiz pudo incrustarse en la selección adulta. Ya en el periodo de Marcelo Bielsa, cuando muchos de sus actuales compañeros despuntaban, dijo presente en varios partidos amistosos. Estuvo en la prenómina de 30 jugadores para Sudáfrica, pero no asistió a la cita. Hoy, con 32 años, piensa en Qatar 2022, y por qué no en el 2026. O al menos una Copa América post Mundial.

La selección natural se ha ido dando. Ya partieron Jorge Valdivia, Jean Beausejour, Mauricio Pinilla y Mark González del 2003, mientras que Luis Jiménez aún sueña con su primer Mundial y Claudio Bravo con el tercero. Del 2005 se alejaron Gonzalo Jara, Marcelo Díaz, José Pedro Fuenzalida y Matías Fernández, mientras que los del 2007 siguen llevando el barco. Al proceso de Isla (33), Medel (33), Vidal (34) y Sánchez (32) rumbo a Qatar le han llamado el Last Dance. Casi todos llegarán con 35 años, el Niño lo hará con 34. El eslabón con la siguiente generación se llama Charles Aránguiz, con 32 años  cumplidos hace dos meses.

El Príncipe fue la figura en el empate ante Uruguay. Su co-generación Eduardo Vargas (31) hizo el gol, uno que nunca estuvo en un Sudamericano Sub 20. No hizo divisiones inferiores. Sì le tocó estar dos veces en el Esperanzas de Toulon. Otro al que nunca llevaron a un Sudamericano Sub 20 fue Eugenio Mena (32), la otra figura del duelo ante los charrúas. Al delantero y al lateral le juega en contra que en su posición cuesta destacarse con más de treinta y tantos. Excepciones hay, obvio.

Con Aránguiz, el pensante, hay un poco más de respiro en el proceso que comenzará inmediatamente terminado Qatar 2022. Paulo Díaz, Erick Pulgar y Guillermo Maripán serán los Aránguiz de la nueva generación, el recambio entre Bielsa y Sampaoli. Los más jóvenes, Sierralta, Brereton, Galdames y Alarcón llegarán con rodaje. Ahí estará Aránguiz aún. Marcando los tiempos, atacando cuando hay que atacar, pisando ambas áreas. Por edad, ofrece un años más en el primer nivel. Hay que ver si el físico aguanta.
