La vida de Alejandro Martín Kenig da para una película. Hace poco salió de la cárcel tras estar tres años en prisión por asociación ilícita después de que fuera vinculado a una megabanda que comercializaba autos y repuestos robados. Poco antes había ganado un millonario reality de sobreviviencia en Miami, en el que adjudicó nada menos que 100 mil dólares. A comienzos de los 90 se hizo conocido en Argentina no solo por ser un temible goleador, sino que también por protagonizar uno de los hechos más escandalosos de la historia del fútbol trasandino con Javier Castrilli y River Plate como los otros protagonistas. Ese duelo de 1993 en Córdoba terminó con cinco jugadores de Talleres expulsados y con el delantero argentino persiguiendo al polémico árbitro. “Fue algo repudiable, nunca había visto algo igual en un árbitro. No le podías decir nada, era tremendamente autoritario. Cuando me saca la tarjeta roja se me borró el casete, atiné a correrlo y él iba retrocediendo. Me agarró un ataque”, recordó hace poco Kenig, capitán de ese Talleres de Córdoba dirigido por José Pastoriza. Un partido que pudo haber terminado en una tragedia.

La carrera de Alejandro Kenig se cruzó con Chile en 1992. Universidad Católica se preparaba para la Copa Libertadores y salió en busca de un nueve extranjero tras la partida de José Percudani. Fueron muchos los que sonaron, y finalmente tres los escogidos: el paraguayo José Saturnino Cardozo, el wanderino Alejandro Rubén Glaria y el portentoso atacante de Deportivo Español Alejandro Martín Kenig. Ellos se iban a sumar a Rodrigo Barrera, Luis Pérez y Raimundo Tupper, en un plantel que ya tenía como extranjeros al por ese entonces zaguero peruano José Guillermo del Solar y al volante argentino Gerardo Manuel Reinoso.

Lo de Kenig en esa Libertadores fue mucho mejor de lo que se recuerda. Le marcó a San Lorenzo en San Carlos de Apoquindo y en el empate 2-2 en Argentina, puntos clave para clasificar a octavos de final en un grupo donde también estaba el campeón de América Colo Colo, el Newell’s de Marcelo Bielsa y el Coquimbo Unido de José Sulantay. Los cruzados se irían en octavos de final ante América de Cali, mismo equipo que luego eliminarían en semifinales de la Copa Libertadores de 1993. Aquella Libertadores de 1992 terminaría con un éxodo masivo de jugadores antes de comenzar el torneo de 1992. Del Solar se iría a Tenerife, Gerardo Reinoso volvería a Independiente, mientras que las estadías de Kenig y Glaría solo durarían la Copa Libertadores y la Copa Chile. En su lugar llegaría Juan Carlos Almada, desechado por problemas de disciplina de Cobreloa, donde solo jugaría la Copa Chile tras su gran paso por Concepción en 1991.

Kenig seguiría perteneciendo a Universidad Católica, y en 1993 y 1994 sonó para regresar. En 1993 se quedarían con Almada y Cardozo, mientras que en 1994 sería el turno de Alberto Federico Acosta. Ya en 1995 Kenig volvería a Chile para jugar en Coquimbo Unido, convirtiéndose en figura de los Piratas durante dos temporadas. Hoy, a dos décadas de su llegada a la UC, el argentino sigue a los cruzados como un hincha más. Apenas se supo del sorteo ante Talleres de Córdoba se activó en redes sociales para sacar a relucir su pasado por ambos equipos. Más identificado con el Deportivo Español, su corazón estará dividido durante la fase de grupos de la Libertadores 2022. Fue capitán de la T, pero Chile lo marcó, por corta que fuera su estadía e injustos que sean los recuerdos de su paso por el club que tuvo una reestructuración durante su estancia. El Tanque, en esta Copa, podrá elegir a su favorito en total libertad.
