Ocurrió el 22 de abril de 1993. Ahí se jugó el partido de vuelta entre Colo Colo y Boca Juniors por la Copa Andina, torneo que se jugó intermitentemente desde 1988, en la inauguración del estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo. La idea era reunir los recientes campeones de Chile y Argentina, idealmente en partidos de ida y vuelta. Todo sujeto a calendario. El de 1988, por ejemplo, entre la UC y River Plate, fue solo en Chile. En 1992, los millonarios y Colo Colo jugaron en Argentina y Chile. En 1995 hubo dos ediciones, una entre la U campeona de 1994 y San Lorenzo, en duelos de ida y vuelta. A fin de año, otra entre los azules campeones 95 y el Boca de Maradona, solo en el estadio Nacional de Santiago. En 1996 fue la última edición entre el Xeneize y Colo Colo en el Monumental.
La de 1993 correspondía entre Boca Juniors y Cobreloa. Los argentinos, de la mano del aporte goleador de Alberto Federico Acosta, se habían consagrado en Argentina. En Chile, el Cobreloa de José Sulantay se quedó con el Torneo Nacional. A los de Calama le bajaron el pulgar entre los organizadores y prefirieron ir por Colo Colo. Así, la Copa Andina, o Trasandina, de 1993 no sería entre campeones, sino que para celebrar el título de los argentinos. La ida sería el 15 de abril en el estadio Monumental, mientras que la vuelta se jugaría siete días más tarde en La Bombonera, el día del debut de Rodolfo Martín Arruabarrena.
El partido en Chile tuvo de todo. Un gol de Alberto Acosta pondría el 1-0 a los 13 minutos, mientras que a los 80’ un piedrazo proveniente desde la Garra Blanca impactó en el trigoleador Rubén Martínez. El zurdo debió salir cuando a los albos de Jozic no le quedaban más cambios. Tuvieron que jugar 10 minutos con uno menos en una Copa donde además estaba en disputa parte de los derechos televisivos de Torneos y Competencias, además de un pozo de la recaudación de ambos partidos. A los dirigentes albos, que en 1992 decidieron jugar la fase de grupos de la Libertadores para recaudar más dinero, ese piedrazo a Martínez y el gol del Beto dolieron el doble. Fue 1-0 final.
La vuelta en La Bombonera tuvo otra vez a los estelares de Colo Colo. En el segundo tiempo entraría el uruguayo Gustavo Badell en uno de los pocos partidos que jugó con la camiseta blanca. Por Boca, otra vez el Beto Acosta haciendo dupla con el Manteca Sergio Martínez. Atrás de ellos Alberto Márcico y el Betito Luis Alberto Carranza, quien tantas veces sonó en Católica. El volante de quite era Alejandro Mancuso, el arquero Navarro Montoya, el central y capitán era Juan Simón, mundialista en Italia 90 y actual comentarista de ESPN. El DT era el Maestro Óscar Washington Tabárez. Un equipazo.
Ese equipazo arrolló a Colo Colo con dos goles de Sergio Martínez y otro de Sergio Saturno. Los embates de Héctor Adomaitis y Patricio Yáñez poco y nada pudieron hacer para los chilenos, que tenían a Lizardo Garrido poco antes de partir al Santos Laguna de México, y a Jaime Pizarro de capitán, quien meses más tarde sería capitán, pero de Argentinos Juniors en una movida de Torneos y Competencias, uno de los organizadores de la Copa.
La Copa terminó con un global de 4-0, y el Beto Acosta y sus compañeros levantaron el trofeo en la Bombonera. En Argentina ese duelo es recordado por ser el debut de Rodolfo Arruabarrena, quien entró en el entretiempo por Carlos Moya y jugó un partidazo. A los tres días, el 25 de abril de 1993, debutaría oficialmente por Boca por el torneo argentino ante All Boys. En 1994 ya era seleccionado de Passarella y jugaría la Copa Confederaciones de 1995. En 1996 jugó a préstamo en Rosario Central, club donde conoció a su amigo José María Buljubasich, arquero que ese año era suplente de Roberto Abbondanzieri. Luego volvería a Boca donde ganaría todo como lateral izquierdo.
Esa amistad con el Tati lo trajo en 2010 a retirarse a la UC. No jugó mucho, pero apoyó desde afuera y se identificó con el club por el título que ese año le ganó a Colo Colo en la recta final, justo el equipo contra el que debutó y levantó su primera Copa diecisiete años antes. Esa olvidada Copa Andina de 1993, con el Beto Acosta figura de Boca Juniors y con el Vasco en su primer acercamiento al fútbol chileno.
